Based in Derbyshire, I work in and around South and West Yorkshire plus the North Midlands as a creative practitioner providing creative activities and art workshops in a variety of schools and community settings. I work alongside staff and pupils or residents to provide support and teaching.
As a qualified and registered primary teacher I have taught in years 1 to 6 in several Derbyshire schools. I have also worked as both an after schools club leader and children's worker, visiting schools for individual lessons and assemblies and a range of other organisations including nursery, Beavers, Brownies.
My own textile art work varies from making large scale commissioned textile banners using machine and hand stitch, to individually designed smaller hand stitched and beaded textile hangings, bags and jewellery. I draw inspiration from nature and colour and much of my work is representational or symbolic.
Over the past few months I have begun
to explore felted landscapes, particularly looking
at those of the Peak District whilst still enjoying using recycled fibres and discarded
objects to incorporate in these pieces of artwork.
I am also interested in traditional
crafts such as spinning, bobbin
lace, felt making and am able
to bring these into
schools to demonstrate.
I have studied City and Guilds Embroidery
part 1 and
the
City and Guilds
Diploma course.
